Courchevel ski hotels and holiday packages

So tell me about it...

Courchevel has the reputation for being the world's best ski resort. Immaculate pistes and stunning scenery, superbly interlinked skiing on the vast 3 Valleys ski area, are some of its features. Courchevel was one of the first purpose built ski resorts in France, disposing of many ski in/ski out accommodation. Courchevel is not just one resort but five, Courchevel 1850, Courchevel 1650, Courchevel 1550, Courchevel Le Praz 1300 and La Tania. They all share the same Courchevel skiing area and are an important part of the 3 Valleys (Trois Vallees), connecting Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens. They are all different in character; from the sophisticated chic of Courchevel 1850 to the charming and traditional village atmosphere of Le Praz. As a favourite of the well-heeled of Europe, Courchevel 1850 boasts a wide selection of fine hotels, designer boutiques, top class restaurants and nightlife. The quality of skiing in Courchevel is memorable. With over 470 snow cannons and 22 piste bashers, the pistes are always immaculately groomed and snow is perhaps more reliable than the rest of the 3 Valleys, as most of the slopes are North facing. The lift system is modern, fast and efficient. Ski schools offer classes in 8 languages for every standard and discipline.

The slopes of Courchevel are amongst the best groomed in Europe. The Verdons and Jardin Alpin télécabines will whisk novice skiers to a number of gentle, wide pistes with easy gradients, perfect for practising basic techniques.

Intermediates will relish the huge variety of runs in the 3 Valleys with exciting reds, leisurely blues and the occasional black. Some of the best runs in the world.

Experts can hit the black run under the Chanrossa chairlift and then shoot under the Roc Mugnier chair, down to Courchevel's Fruit Junction to find out the true meaning of steep and deep!! Now you've got the taste, head for the Ugly Sisters - an infamous trio of couloirs, racing down from the Saulire summit.

There is a large dedicated 'snow park' under the Plantrey chair as well as numerous off-piste challenges throughout Courchevel. The area near the Biollay chairlift is especially popular, where the ridge known as 'The Lip' is a favourite spot for getting big air. Baby pipe, canyons, dunes, and hoops available for snowboarding.

Courchevel has an excellent ski school and its wide range of beginners’ slopes make it an ideal place to learn. The ski school’s Village des Enfants is just below the Forum Centre and has a Nursery Kindergarten for children as young as 18 months. Off the slopes there’s a popular ice rink and a ten-pin bowling alley in the Forum Centre itself.

Gourmet & nightlife

To relax after a day in the cool air a wide selection of bars and restaurants in all villages -especially in 1850- is proposed to you.

Bars, pubs, pianos-bars, night clubs go out of their way to offer you concerts and theme evenings in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Most popular bars are TJ's, Kalico bar, Bar Le Jump, Milk bar.

In terms of Restaurants there something for everyone: Gourmet restaurants, high-altitude restaurants, traditional restaurants, Italian pizzerias or brasseries /snackbars.

The most popular restaurants are le Chabichou, le Chalet des Pierres, l'Eterlou, la Montagne, le Bistro du Praz and the 2 starred Michelin restaurant le Bateau Ivre.

You will also find 2 Cinemas, impressive range of boutiques in 1850 with designer names, ice hockey matches at the Forum centre and the impressive Olympic ski-jump at Le Praz.

With more than 150 shops, Courchevel is a shopping paradise, with the majority of stores concentrated in the main 1850 resort.

As you would expect given its upmarket reputation, these include the kind of designer fashion, jewellery, lingerie and perfumery boutiques you would find in the most exclusive districts of Paris, London or New York.

Among these are Christian Dior (place du Tremplin), Napapijri (Espace Diamant), Quiksilver (Le Forum, niveau -1) and jewellers Julian Joailliers (Espace Diamant) for your Rolex. There are of course plenty of ordinary shops too.
