So tell me about it...

Saint Gervais is a quaint village that combines last century architecture with a modern high-tech lift system. It also provides some great ski options, plus terrific health and beauty treatments, due to its history as a spa town. With all the beauty of a petit Savoyard market town, a rich heritage, a baroque church, traditional buildings, and pedestrian areas, Saint Gervais is a popular resort with families.

Saint Gervais has 47 slopes adding up to 65kms of ski runs, with access to a further 700kms of ski runs in the area. The resort is serviced by 27 lifts, moving 24,000 skiers an hour, with the highest lift reaching 2,350m. The village sits at 850m, with a vertical drop of 1,200m. Skiing here is suitable for all levels and ages with over 40 per cent of runs dedicated to beginners. There are also an additional 30kms of cross-country trails and a snowboard park.

Ski slopes are linked across to the slightly more "up-market" resort of Megeve and as the ski pass covers the entire region, skiers usually take advantage of skiing the vast circuit and coming down for that end of afternoon "Schuss" back to La Bettex and the final gondola ride back to the village.

Apres ski is lively and there is a choice of 50 bars and restaurants in the town and on its slopes. For after dinner entertainment there is the La Nuit des Temps nightclub and a casino. Other attractions include: an artist’s studio, traditional pottery-making and some great local markets. The resort offers accommodation in a range of beautiful buildings from the baroque to the traditional mountain chalet.

Due to the volume of visitors it receives, there are numerous shops in Saint-Gervais selling souvenirs and regional produce, there is also a jewellery store, perfumery and a number of fashion outlets. The nearby resort of Megeve contains several jewellers and designer clothing boutiques.

A range of non-ski activities are on offer in Saint-Gervais, including paragliding and mountain-walking. The Palais des Sports has an outdoor Olympic-size skating-rink, used for ice-skating and electric, ice bumper-cars. The Saint-Gervais horse-riding school is open all year round.

There are a good choice of nursery slopes in the Evasion domaine - in Megeve at valley level and more snow sured ones at altitude on each of the main mountains. There are also plenty of very easy green runs to progress to - particularly in Combloux.

Good intermediates will enjoy the Evasion ski area. The black runs are perfectly manageable and the runs between Mont d'Arbois and Le Bettex are also interesting. The new link in La Giettaz is expected to mean access to steeper slopes there too. It is a great area for the less confident.
